We cringe. As we are all trying to lose weight and whoever we are with wants to grab fast-food, we cringe. All the thoughts that go through our head, "but I have been eating so good!", "I don't want to ruin my diet", "I wonder if they will want to just come to my house and eat yogurt instead"! But lets face it, it's real-life. It's reality. We will run into these situations and we just have to be prepared.
After changing significantly the way I have eaten over the past 2.5 years, I have grown to know what to order at certain fast-food restaurants. The 'healthier' options, if you will. Even though we are trying so hard to be 'good', we still have to live. We have both gathered our favorite meals from our favorite fast-food stops to help you make your decisions easier and to help you stress a little less. Just remember, there is always a better option when eating out, you just have to make a smarter choice!
Here is a quick-tip you may want to consider if you know you will be eating away from home. Do your homework. A lot of restaurants have the nutritional facts of their menu on their website. Check out the menu before you go and scope out the best, healthier options.
The following choices we like to base on lower-fat and lower-calorie options. However, we do not like to choose meals with empty calories, so try to choose ones that have an adequate amount of protein and healthier carbs.
Grilled Chicken Sandwich - A boneless breast of chicken, marinated with a special blend of seasonings and grilled for a tender and juicy backyard-grilled taste, served on a toasted multigrain bun with green leaf lettuce and tomato. Special instructions: Eat without the sauce packet they give with you.
320 calories, 5g fat, 30g protein, 40g carbs
Egg White Delight - Freshly grilled egg whites, extra lean canadian bacon and smooth white cheddar, stacked on a toasted english muffin with 8 grams of whole grain. Special instructions: Eat without sauce.
250 calories, 8g of fat, 18g protein, 30g carbs
Premium Southwest Salad - Slices of tender chicken breast filet, mixed greens, fire-roasted corn, savory black beans, roasted tomatoes and poblano peppers. Sprinkled with cheddar and jack cheeses, chili-lime tortilla strips, a fresh slice lime wedge, and served with Newman's Own southwest dressing. Special instructions: Go light on the tortilla strips and use lime wedge and 1/2 packet of dressing.
290 calories, 8g fat, 27g protein, 28g carbs.
Veggie Gourmet Delite - Artisan think crust, creamy garlic sauce, spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, mixed onions, herb & cheese blends. Special instructions: Order without the creamy garlic sauce, use red sauce instead. Add chicken to your pizza. Tell them light on the oil!
